For my digital class we had to design a book cover. My girlfriend gave me a great idea of doing Yakuza tattoo book, but my teacher said it had to be a real book. So, I ended up finding a book about Yakuza so I could still do the Yakuza tattoos, in a way. The illustration didn't turn out nearly like I wanted it too, but I kinda like it regardless. I should mention my intention with this illustration too. i wanted to connect it with history in a way. that is why the old style samurai is on the back side of the book. They started out as Samurai, and the tattoos they wear come from Ukiyo e images so I was trying to make it like that.

Hey Jeff! Good to see you still cranking away! How did this go over in your class? It's an interesting design.
You should post more sketchbook stuff. It's way cool to see an artist trying to put things together, trying to come up with new ideas, trying to figure things out. I love the life drawing, afraid of the dark, ink, sketch and TV posts. They really show the artist working at solving problems-- which is what art is like for me, anyway. It's all problem solving.
Totally agree with your TV rant. I never turn the thing on and haven't missed it. Confession: Someone at work gave me a copy of Battlestar Galactica season 1 and I LOVED it, but other than that I've been good.

Thanks for checking my site again. The semester at school has ended so I have been slacking off a bit and trying to get my head back together :).
The crit on my Yakuza piece went very well actually. The first time I drew this piece, I hated it, but thought I could save it once I put it in photoshop to color it. I actually really like it :).
Thank you for your other comments as well. I am still searching and trying to discover things. I feel closer now than before so I think I am still on the right track. I just need to keep on creating.
I will definately post more sketchbook images soon. I am leaving for Japan this Friday to visit a good friend of mine. I will be there for two weeks so this site will be dead for a bit, but I will be back :).
Even though I hate TV, I do have one, but it's for watching movies and playing PS2 :P. bad habits I know, but I like them.
